The City Rings

Interculturele geluidsuitwisseling tussen een basisschool in Gent & Jaipur

The City Rings is an artistic and educational sound project connecting children from two primary schools in Ghent (Belgium) and Rajasthan (India) through the practice of listening.

Within the project, pupils explore the soundscape of their daily environment and create recordings of the places where they live, play and go to school. These recordings are then exchanged between the two schools. In this way, a playful dialogue emerges between two cities, allowing children to listen to each other’s surroundings and discover unfamiliar sounds.

By actively listening to both their own environment and that of others, the pupils develop curiosity, imagination and a deeper awareness of how sound shapes our experience of place. The project invites them to hear their city with new ears and to connect with another culture through sound.

The City Rings is a concept developed by our partner Aifoon. Maghenta co-facilitates the project as part of a broader artistic exchange between Ghent and Rajasthan.
