Maghenta is an international organisation for artists, art practitioners, programmers, scholars and art lovers who have an affinity for innovation through South- & Southeast Asian arts. We strongly believe in the power of the arts as a remedy, with the ability to arouse positive curiosity about another culture, and to stimulate collaboration free of prejudice.
 

OUR MISSION

Maghenta is a Ghent-based platform for contemporary performing arts with a strong affinity for South and Southeast Asian traditions. The organization develops, produces, and presents artistically innovative work and creates sustainable development opportunities for underrepresented artists and art forms.

Through a practice grounded in attentive guidance, artistic quality, and equitable collaboration, Maghenta fosters intercultural exchange, experimental research, and knowledge sharing. By building bridges between artists, communities, academic institutions, and other sectors, Maghenta contributes to a diverse, internationally connected, and future proof arts field in Ghent, Flanders, and beyond.
 

OUR VISION

Maghenta is founded on the belief that a resilient arts landscape is built on plurality, inclusion, and international dialogue. The organization aims to structurally anchor South and Southeast Asian–inspired artistic practices within the contemporary performing arts field and position them as full-fledged drivers of artistic innovation and social reflection.

We see art as a space of encounter: between tradition and experimentation, heritage and contemporaneity, the local and the international. By 2028, Maghenta aims to grow into a sustainable and leading platform that supports artists at every stage of their practice - from research to presentation - and functions as a hub for intercultural collaboration between artistic, academic, and societal actors.

Rooted locally in Ghent, Maghenta aspires to play an international exemplary role in inclusive artistic development, sustainable collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Success will be measured by the artistic quality of the projects realized, the sustainable trajectories of supported artists, the diversity of partnerships, and the reach among a wide range of audiences.
