During the COVID-19 crisis in April 2020, Ayla Joncheere (Maghenta), Christina Gomes (Kalbelia Arts Academy) and Aakansha Maheshwari (Bollypop) came up with the concept of "Kalbeliya World". Kalbeliya World is an international solidarity program bringing together a global community of women with a heart for the Kalbeliya dance style from Rajasthan.
With Kalbeliya World, they developed an interactive system for Kalbeliya dancers around the world. They work with Kalbeliya dancers from Rajasthan (hereditary masters), international dancers (technical support) and coordinators (organisational support). Together this team forms female start-ups for international online classes, live from living rooms in Rajasthan.
With the creation of livelihood, exposure to the digital space for traditional artists, and the concept of collaboration as the key successful elements of this project, the founders were inspired to take creativity in the digital space forward within diverse communities.
